I travel a lot in my glamorous day job as a Risk manager, and I mean a LOT. Most of the time, due to having a semi-old car as well as in order to maximise my time, I tend to travel via the rail network as it means I can try and get work done on the way to a client but equally relax on the way home. I’ve always been wanting to splash out on a good pair of wireless headphones for such journeys so when AO.com got in touch to ask me if I’d like to check out the Plantronics
The first thing to note is that Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 are extended wireless headphones meaning they have a wireless range of 100 meters thanks to class 1 bluetooth being included. Previously on much lower quality bluetooth earphones I’ve had, I’ve experienced crackling and broken communication between device and ear pieces so its very pleasing to note that with these thats not the case.
They also have an amazing 24 hour battery life (or 21 days standby life) so will really last for a good while before you need to charge them back up. Even if they do require a charge, its only a 3 hours charge time for a full battery which is incredible.
There is a great deal of cushioning around the headband as well as the ear cups meaning although these do feel a little on the heavy side (weighing 289grams) they don’t feel heavy when wearing them and even after a few hours, don’t ache on your ears like others I’ve tried in the past.
These BackBeat Pro 2 headphones also have active noise cancelling included which blocks out all unnecessary background noise so you can use enjoy the content you are listening to in peace, a quirky feature though is sensors within the ear cups which recognise when you take them off and will pause your audio until you pop them back on again, perfect for not missing any key content. They also have something I’d not come across before called ‘Open listening mode” which when switched too will amplify sounds outside of your headphones so you can still keep them on but any announcements on the outside are picked up by the onboard mic and into your ears as if you were plugged directly into that audio source, strange but quite handy too.
There are built in audio controls into the side of the ear cups meaning you can change track, volume and play and pause on the go without reaching for your connected device. Thanks to the built in mic, they also work as a handsfree device for your phone too, being able to connect up to two devices at once.
Included in the box is a handy travel pouch, perfect for keeping your new cans in perfect condition as well as a 3.5mm cable so you can still use them on non-bluetooth enabled devices as well as a micro usb charging cable.
My only disappointment is that these headphones aren’t splash / sweat proof so although I’ll be taking them on our holiday this year, I’ll be sure to be careful around the pool area to make sure they don’t come into contact with any water.
Overall though I can fault these Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 wireless headphones and not only do they look stylish, are feature rich but also more importantly sound fantastic with crisp high notes, nature mid tones and a good deep bass with very little distortion.
