Review | Protecting your tech with Speck

Speck Protection Cases

I’ve previously focused on protecting your loved ones when travelling around, I’m of course on about your gadgets and tech and not some kind of sponsored life insurance post. But what about when you only need to take out one or two of your most prized possessions with you? Well  case makers Speck has a huge amount of protection products to suit most needs and brands too.

Having seen my previous post on protecting gadgets, I was approached by the very nice people at Speck to see if they could match the needs of our family by protecting a collection of our favourite gadgets so whether we were indoors or out, we didn’t need to worry.

Speck specialise in award-winning cases designed to make an impact—and take one too. Since 2001, they have been making products for the world’s top smartphones, tablets, laptops, and even more lately, watches too. Not only that but Speck make products that are designed for impact to protect the tech you rely on. With a balance of slim lines and military-grade protection, there’s a case for everyone.

We were given the following:

  • Presidio Clear + Glitter iPhone 6/6s case
  • Presidio Wallet iPhone 7 plus case
  • StyleFolio Stand / Case for the iPad mini (mini/mini2/mini3)
  • iGuy Child friendly case for the iPad mini collection (mini/mini2/mini3)
  • SeeThru Macbook Pro 13 inch retina display case

All cases vary in both style as well as features so in order to give you a feel, check out the photo’s below.

Of the products above you will see some carry extremely thin profiling (SeeThru and StyleFolio) which is great if like me, you don’t want to compromise the features of the hardware itself, with the SeeThru almost giving the impression you have no case on at all thanks to its clear styling. This however does mean that protection wise, Speck can’t give you their “Drop Test” protection levels many of their other products provide.

If protection is more what you are looking for, and in turn a ‘Drop Test’ certified case, then the remain three cases all provide this. The Presidio Wallet is given a 10 feet protection rating, the Presidio Clear and Glitter an 8 foot rating and finally the iGuy with its Military-grade rating mean it survived being drop tested onto a hard, unrelenting surface with iPad mini retaining full functionality and no damage to screen or buttons. Obviously with me (and the rest of the family all being under 6ft (comfortably) it means we’d need to grow a lot just to be close to its limits. 😉

Finally if you are looking for functionality, then be sure to add this to the feature lists too as the Presidio Wallet comes with a convenient slot in the back of the case meaning it can hold up to 3 cards and the StyleFolio has a built in stand as well as multiple viewing angles and a handy auto sleep / wake ability too.

These are just five differing cases, all of them suit our family in various ways, the iGuy prioritising a fun like design in order to hide the fact its main point is protection, the lovely glitter like design of the Presidio meaning Mrs F has a little bit of bling to cover her phone and me who is happy to sacrifice full protection in order to still be able to appreciate my gadgets in the own habitats and looks.

If you are looking for protection, for yourself or your family (in their gadget needs), then check out the Speck website for their current offerings.

Until next time

NB: I was provided with several types of Speck protection cases in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own
