As the children grow older, it means we can thankfully say goodbye to those annoying toys which play tunes and look towards more inclusive and equally rewarding games. As a family we have really started to enjoy playing games together. Partly I think thats because we aren’t glued to our individual phones, iPads or TV and as a result we can each pay one another our full attention but secondly I think we all have a certain competitive streak and enjoy gaining bragging rights when we win. One of the main issues we do find though is finding a game which we can all play, so when Asmodee, one of Europes top games distributors got in touch to see if Dobble would be fit mould we were happy to give it a shot.
Dobble is a fast and furious card game aimed at ages 6+ (although D is only five and was still able to join in) and can be played with anything from 2-8 players so is perfect for families and friends alike. The aim is simple, to find a match between two cards the quickest. Sounds a little like Snap! right? Kinda, except Dobble is much better. Each card has 8 different pictures (different sizes as well), so trying to find the one match between each card is more tricky than it sounds.
Coming packaged in a handy tin it also means it can be safely stored and taken anywhere, days out, holidays or even to the grandparents for a spot of after dinner fun.
It’s not just one game you can play with the 55 round cards, there’s five! From being the 1st player to gain the most cards through to another whereby you have to get rid of your cards the quickest. Each the five games is incredibly quick to learn so even newbies can join in the fun quickly. We found it was best to play an open slow version of each game before playing for real and watching as the pace dramatically picks up…. as does the noise and laughing levels as well.
We love Dobble, in fact I’d go as far as saying its our new favourite game as not only is it fun but it doesn’t last the whole afternoon…. thats if you don’t want it to 🙂
Priced at £12.99 although if you do a quick search around you can find it as low as £7.99 in through some online retailers. It’s also worth noting that there’s also a Dobble for Kids (aged 4+) which has slightly more recognisable pictures but the same concept as well as other themed Dobble versions such as Harry Potter and Star Wars so perfect for a great low priced and mega useful Christmas Stocking filler.
For more information on Dobble and other games through Asmodee, check out their website. You’ll be surprised how many games there are, some I’ve played and some I want to play.
Until next time
